what happens when labor begins:
We (your birth team) will be with you throughout labor and the birth process.
We are here to monitor the natural process as it unfolds, guiding as necessary. We provide individually-tailored care which gives you the freedom to labor and birth as your body chooses without unnecessary interference and surrounded by those who support you. Complications are rare because of the excellent health status of our clients and because of the preventive care conducted prenatally. However, if there's a situation that begins to develop, it's addressed skillfully at home or we transport to an area hospital if necessary. We carry emergency equipment and pharmaceuticals to treat hemorrhage and perform newborn resuscitation in addition to herbal and homeopathic remedies. If transport becomes necessary, we will stay with you.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOUR BABY ARRIVES:
We remain for several hours after the birth to make a meal, start laundry, and perform clean up. We also continue assessing mom and baby. A thorough newborn exam is performed next to you, so your baby will not be separated from you. We ensure that both mom and baby are well and the entire family is settled before we leave. Care during the postpartum period is vital to a woman's complete recovery as well as her long-term health. Postpartum home visits occur on day one, day three, and day five. At this time, we give you the proper documentation for the birth certificate and social security. Additionally, we come back around two weeks, four weeks and six weeks postpartum. During these visits, the physical and emotional well-being of the entire family is addressed as well complete newborn care.
